MSK Problems

Musculoskeletal (MSK) disorders affect bones, joints and muscles, and include pain syndromes and rarer conditions of the immune system. MSK conditions are often multifaceted or combined with secondary conditions involving neurological, cutaneous and subcutaneous, infective, immune and vascular components.

At Stride Clinic we assess and treat all age groups. Very young children may have a condition that the parents are aware of such as Talipes or an anomaly such as toe walking, in toeing or out toeing. Older children can present with Calcaneal Apophysitis (Severs), Osgood Schlatters or Patellofemoral pain.

Children are not simply small adults and it is important that we treat them in a manner that recognises that they are still growing. We take a ‘least intervention possible’ approach so we do not interfere with their natural development.

In the adult population, we treat people with back, hip and knee pain who find that their gait is causing pain and restricting their activity. The sooner these problems are addressed the more successful the outcome and the forces that induce every day wear and tear can be brought under control to prevent further injury and joint deterioration.

Podiatrists can help manage conditions such as Parkinsons Disease, Multiple Sclerosis and Rheumatoid Arthritis by assisting proprioception and redistributing ground reaction forces away from at risk areas of the foot.

Old sports injuries and injuries following a trauma such as a car accident can cause problems several years after the event even when a good recovery was achieved. Joint restrictions and scar tissue can affect the damaged area or long term compensation for the injury can affect a very different area of the body.

For all MSK conditions we recommend a Biomechanical Assessment.
